Western Australia
Rocla Quarry Products has five quarries strategically located around the Perth Metropolitan area and access to international port facilities in Fremantle and Kwinana.
Sited in different geological areas throughout Perth the quarries produce a complete range of sand products including concrete sand, bricklaying and plastering sand, filling sand, high grade silica sand and dried and packaged sands.
Rocla has been established in Western Australia since the early 1980's and is Perth's major supplier of processed sand products. The company has the capacity to supply material to all areas of the greater metropolitan area. Rocla operates wheeled loaders and seven screening plants across all of its sites in Perth.
Concrete sand is sourced from Gaskell Avenue in the north and Armadale Road and Baldivis in the south. Bricklaying and Plastering sand is sourced from Gnangara Road in the north and Baldivis in the south. Filling sand is available from all sites. Coarse graded sand for specialised concrete manufacture is available from Gingin. High grade silica sand for glass making, foundry and chemical production is sourced from Gaskell Avenue which also has sand drying and packaging capability.

Western Australia Quarries
Armadale Road, Banjup
Located 20 kilometres south of the Perth CBD this site supplies fine concrete sand into the CBD and mid-southern areas of Perth. The main use of the sand is in the premixed concrete industry. Armadale Road is situated in the Bassendean sand belt and is spread across three leasehold sites totalling nearly 100 hectares in area. The material is clean and low in clay and silts enabling processing by dry screening only.
Creighton Road, Gingin
Located nearly 90 kilometres from the Perth CBD Gingin is a unique coarse grained quartz sand that has proved ideal for high strength concrete manufacture. The sand is used by the concrete roof tile producers in Perth as well as Perth's largest masonry brick manufacturer. Overburden removal of fine sand exposes a seam of well graded sand that is dry screened prior to delivery into the Perth Metropolitan area.
Gnangara Road, Lansdale
This site is located 25 kilometres north of the Perth CBD and situated in the Tamala Limestone sand belt. The site has been in operation since 1966 and is a combination of private and leasehold land. After mining the land is being progressively developed as an industrial estate and Enterprise Park, as it is known, is one of the most prestigious industrial sub divisions in the northern Perth metropolitan area. The major products sold at the site are bricklaying, plastering and filling sands. Gnangara Road is the major supply source for these sands in the northern Perth area.
Gaskell Avenue, Lexia
Rocla's 530 hectare mine site at Gaskell Avenue, 23 kilometres north of Perth CBD is able to produce concrete sand, filling sand and high grade silica sands at an annual capacity in excess of 1,500,000 tonnes, with proven reserves in excess of 50 million tonnes. This site is also in the Bassendean sand belt but has high dunes of deep pure white silica sand overlaying the cream material used in the production of concrete and filling sands. Concrete sand is either dry screened or washed depending on raw material quality. Silica sand is extensively processed into several different grades and either sold in bulk or further processed within the drying and screening plant located on the site.
Industry proven state of the art processing equipment at Rocla's Gaskell Avenue site, is designed to produce highly specified, made to order products with sizes ranging from +1 mm to minus 300 microns with particular grading and chemical requirements. The predominant markets for silica sand are:
- Moulding media in foundries
- Scour sand for cleaning pigment plants
- Adhesive and grout manufacturers
- Rendering systems
- Filtration media
- Top dressing of synthetic sports surfaces
- Glass manufacture
- Chemical production such as sodium silicate and silicon carbide
Bulk supply is available throughout the Perth metropolitan market and for export through the Kwinana bulk loading terminal. Bulk bagged product is being supplied to Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, regional WA, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
This site is located within state forest and the land is being progressively rehabilitated with a view to re-establishing the original woodland that existed prior to clearing and mining.
Sixty Eight Road, Baldivis
The Baldivis site is located approximately 55 kilometres south of the Perth CBD and services the rapidly growing Rockingham and Mandurah areas. Bricklaying and Plastering sands are dry screened from the Tamala Limestone sand found at the site. Concrete sand is produced by washing excess silt and clay from the same raw material. The site is just over 30 hectares, is zoned future urban and the land is being left at final levels which will complement this end use.
